VS 15D8 Overview
VS 15D8 is a green 0402 surface-mount LED from Victory Electronics (威力光電), Taiwan. It belongs to the 0402 low-profile indicator family, and the measured body height on the outline drawing is 0.45 mm — the family is named for its 0.5 mm height class, but the part itself is 1.0 × 0.5 × 0.45 mm. That profile is why it turns up on dense boards where an indicator has to fit between connectors rather than in a reserved area.
It emits at 573 nm standard green through a clear lens, 18 mcd minimum and 25 mcd typical at 20 mA, with a 120° viewing angle and a 2.0 V typical forward voltage. This is an indicator-class output, not an illumination part — bright enough to read clearly indoors, not intended to light anything up.
Design Notes for VS 15D8
- 25 mcd typical is modest by design. Boards read in direct sunlight usually need a larger package or a higher-intensity color from the same family.
- At 0402 size the thermal path is short and the pads are small. Keep the drive current at or below the 20 mA test condition unless we have confirmed a higher rating for your build.
- From a 3.3 V rail, about 65 Ω in series gives roughly 20 mA at the typical VF; at the 2.4 V maximum the same resistor gives about 14 mA, so allow for that spread if brightness matters. From a 5.0 V rail, about 150 Ω in series gives roughly 20 mA at the typical VF; at the 2.4 V maximum the same resistor gives about 17 mA, so allow for that spread if brightness matters.
- Maximum continuous forward current is 25 mA; peak forward current is 100 mA under 1/10 duty at 1 kHz.
