VS MRD8 Overview
VS MRD8 is a top-view full-color RGB LED from Victory Electronics (威力光電), Taiwan, in a 1.6 × 1.6 × 0.35 mm package with a four-pin common-anode configuration: the three cathodes are switched individually and one shared anode feeds all three dice. Red, true-green and blue sit under a single clear lens with a 120° viewing angle.
Typical intensities at 20 mA are 110 mcd red, 200 mcd true-green and 55 mcd blue. Common anode is what most microcontroller-driven designs expect — three GPIO pins sinking current, one rail feeding the anode — so VS MRD8 is the simpler of Victory's two parts in this package to drop into an existing design.
Design Notes for VS MRD8
- Common anode: one shared anode, three cathodes switched individually. That suits a microcontroller sinking current on three GPIO pins. If you need the dice isolated instead, VS NRD8 is the six-pin independent version of the same package.
- Each channel still needs its own resistor or driver channel. Red runs at 2.0 V typical while green and blue run at 3.3 V, so a shared resistor will skew the color mix.
- From a 5.0 V rail, roughly 150 Ω on red and 85 Ω on green and blue gives about 20 mA per channel. A 3.3 V rail has no headroom for the green and blue dice.
- Maximum continuous forward current is 25 mA per die.

What is the difference between VS MRD8 and VS NRD8?
The pin-out. VS MRD8 is a four-pin common-anode part; VS NRD8 is a six-pin part with three independent dice. Both share the 1.6 × 1.6 × 0.35 mm package, the 120° viewing angle and the same forward voltages, and VS MRD8 is slightly brighter on each channel. They are not drop-in replacements for each other.
